Spring is skirts, rings, and color blocking
Fashion is the past that dictates the future which is the present. Does that make sense?
A week of North Carolina weather got me thinking about Spring and what I’m excited for:
Not-your-mini skirt lengths
The printed knee length skirts! The flared and pleated midi skirts! These lengths tends to be the least adored sibling of all skirt lengths but I’ve been daydreaming about them a lot vis a vis vintage Prada and Miu Miu & some funky little skirts that have been popping up for FW25. By no means do I want to be a young hot mom (more young! more hot! no mom! but no shade to moms bc moms are the best!) but it screams young hot mom in the best way possible.

YSL Arty ring
While I was falling in love with Chloe’s FW25 collection, it prompted my unfulfilled desire for the YSL Arty ring circa 2013. This one is for you tumblr freaks. I remember wanting this ring SO bad (all the cool girls wore them) and now we’ve come full circle where boho chic is back in business, baby.
In summary -
Do I still want it? Heck yes.
Could I still get it? What a wonderful life we live in that ebay exists and I can still have it if I *really* wanted to.
Will I? Maybe. Probably not (but who knows!)
All I know is, for now, I’m just a girl with cool ass gemstone ring from Montreal that already serves me in a way that I think the Arty ring would, because Rule #1 - love the things that you already have that do what its supposed to do (and does that thing really well)
Streams of color blocking
And while I was looking at those rings and its fun hues, it reminded me of Polo’s recent editorial brimming with childlike color blocking that I, conveniently enough, screenshotted for inspiration (which isn’t the first time this happened - Polo’s no first timer when it comes to having fun with color)
Inspiration for Spring, because Spring is rebirth, joy, fun, sun, outdoor drinks and play - all of the things that call for MORE COLOR!
Color blocking is by no means a novel concept, so it’s always fun to see it how iterates over time. Case in point, all this color block talk then got me thinking of this very specific line from a very specific NOWNESS video (linked above but also here, you’re welcome) from 2015 (gasp) on Phoebe Philo’s excellent color blocking work during her time at Céline. Inspiring then, inspiring now.
Note to self: get yellow pants

If you’re a color blocking enthusiast and/or if you just like nice books to look at, might I recommend:
Flower Color Theory by Darroch Putnam and Michael Putnam of Putnam Flowers. Putnam Flowers introduced me to florals as art when I was young and didn’t know any better - CHIC!
A Dictionary of Color Combinations. You’ve probably seen this one around on the internet and for good reason.
